Crystal Lightning - Crystal Car Series

The Abstract Autos: Crystal Car Series is a collaborative body of work by photographer Mark T Goddard and fine artist  Sequin Kay. Each piece is meticulously hand-embellished with Swarovski crystals, merging photographic precision with sculptural intervention.

A graduate of Camberwell College of Arts and Goldsmiths, University of London, and an official Swarovski brand ambassador, Sequin Kay’s work brings a refined material language to the series, elevating each image into a dimensional object.

These works reframe iconic automotive forms as contemplative artefacts — where engineered velocity is stilled, and surface becomes luminous. Light is not only captured, but refracted; form is not only seen, but reimagined.

Crystal Lightning is a geometric study of Roy Lichtenstein’s 1977 BMW 320i Group 5 Race Version Art Car. Centred on the striking lightning bolt that marks the car’s engine kill switch, the work isolates a moment of functional design and elevates it into visual language.

Echoing the bold geometry and constructivist linework synonymous with Lichtenstein’s practice, the composition draws on a 1950s graphic sensibility—clean, assertive, and rhythmically structured. Through crystallisation, the piece introduces a new layer of materiality and light, offering a subtle nod to the flamboyant, high-gloss theatricality of David Bowie’s glam rock era.

Produced in strictly limited numbers, each piece offers collectors an intersection of rarity, craftsmanship, and visual intensity.
